The program was produced
and hosted by Bill Hlubik, Middlesex County Agricultural Agent.
Its mission is to offer research-based information in the areas
of gardening, landscaping and agriculture to the public. Joining
Bill is Somerset County Ag Agent, Nick Polanin who helps in conveying
the underlying theme of all of I.P.C.T.'s shows, the concept of
environmental stewardship.
If
Plants Could Talk's mission is to promote environmental stewardship,
through segments that introduce the audience to some of New Jersey's
farmers horticultural experts and home gardeners. If Plants Could
Talk showcases some of the most scenic greenspaces in the state.
As a result, the show has won awards from Video Festivals and Agricultural
Agents Associations alike.
To
provide the viewer with even more information on topics presented
IPCT has assembled a website that makes getting information on gardening,
landscaping, and agriculture easy.
At www.ifplantscouldtalk.rutgers.edu,
you can download fact-sheets on information like: planning your
vegetable garden and methods of Lyme disease prevention. Also available
are deer tolerant plant selections and informative How-To slideshows.
The site even provides the locations of your nearest Pick-Your-Own
farm.
Since its inception the
project has received millions of hits on its website and received
several national awards.
