Levine Travels to Africa to Help Children & Animals
Homeless Tails host and producer Sandy Levine has recently returned from an exciting safari to South Africa as part of a charitable fundraiser for children and animals! Levine's work there helped her sister, artist Diana Madaras of Tucson, Arizona, raise nearly $80,000 for 5 charities. Click here to learn more and see the video Levine produced about the African Sojourn project.

This week's pets are from...are from...

Tahoe Robin

Tahoe is a sweet, calm shepherd/collie mix who came to the Animal Orphanage from an overcrowded shelter in Georgia.  He's about 2 years old, and mostly black with some white and tan.  Tahoe has a wonderful disposition and he already knows some basic obedience.  He's good with children and cats...what a find!

Robin is a very handsome 8-month-old cat who has grown up at the shelter.  He has been there since he was just 8 weeks old.  Robin is all black with beautiful copper eyes.  He's a neutered male, very friendly and sweet.  Please give this loving cat a new home in the New Year!

Saint Carla
Saint is an all white Lab/pit bull mix, about 6 months old.  Saint came to the shelter as a stray in December.  He's a neutered male who loves to play. With a little bit of training and lots of love, Saint will make a wonderful new companion for the right family!
Carla is a silver tabby, about 3 years old who came to the shelter as a stray.  She's a spayed female who loves to sit on your lap and be petted. Shelters in our area are full of cats and kittens who all need homes ... How about starting the New Year by helping a homeless pet?

Homeless Tails Holiday Greetings

Sandy and CarolineHappy Holidays from all of us at NJN's Homeless Tails!  At this time of year, through our special Holiday Show, we like to thank all of the people who make Homeless Tails successful.    Thank you to the veterinarians from the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association who have participated in Homeless Tails since the program first went on the air, by donating spay/neuter surgeries to participating shelters.  Thank you to all the shelters and rescue groups who bring their precious pets to our Trenton studios for tapings throughout the year.  Thank you to all the viewers who have adopted wonderful animals through Homeless Tails. Thank you to the crew members and support staff who have helped with Homeless Tails productions since 1993.  And a very special thanks to the John and Wendy Neu Family Foundation, whose generous financial support makes Homeless Tails possible.

PepperNew Year's Resolutions to Help the Animals.  You can start the New Year right, and really make a difference for the animals, by taking a few small steps, like making sure all of your pets are wearing proper identification.  During these tough economic times shelters need your help more than ever, as some people are forced to give up their pets simply because they can't afford to keep them.  Join me, my daughter Caroline and our beloved former shelter dog, Sunny, as we welcome the New Year by looking back on a few of the many lucky pets who were adopted thanks to Homeless Tails in 2008.  Happy New Year from all of us at NJN's Homeless Tails

Pit Bulls-Myths & RealityPit Bulls-Myths & Reality

The Michael Vick case has brought dogfighting into the national spotlight. But to the people involved with animal welfare work in New Jersey, dogfighting and the overbreeding of pit bull type dogs are not news. Shelters around the state are crammed with unwanted dogs collectively known as "pit bulls", and struggle with decisions about the dogs' fates. While pit bull type dogs are widely feared today as they have been responsible for some brutal, even fatal attacks on pets and people, that wasn't always the case. When properly bred, trained and socialized, American Pit Bull Terriers are known to be friendly towards people, and make loyal, loving pets. Watch this Homeless Tails Special to learn about Liberty Humane Society's BAD dogs program, and see how this Jersey City shelter carefully evaluates the temperaments of its dogs, to see which are adoptable and which are truly dangerous.
